When people make the decision to go scuba diving they are
bound to see a plethora of things underwater. Things that people discover when
scuba diving or taking part in other water sports can range from the expected,
to the amazing, to the unusual and even creepy. One thing is true; regardless
of where someone is exploring what dwells below the surface always expect the
unexpected.
The Expected
When people go scuba diving or snorkeling, one thing is
certain, they are hoping to see an assortment of plant and sea life. Scuba
divers and snorkelers, and even those just swimming or fishing from a boat have
the opportunity to see a broad range of fish. This includes schools of colorful
fish, sharks, stingrays, eels, and even whales. It is also common to expect to
see beautiful coral reefs, starfish, and sea anemones.
The Amazing
Some people might say that everything you find underwater is
amazing. In the broad scheme of things, this is true. Here are a few specific
items found underwater that are amazing.
- The R.M.S. Titanic - Discovering and accessing the
wreckage of the Titanic is something not possible for average scuba divers as
special equipment was required.
- Dark Blue Holes - These blue holes viewable from aerial
shots are the equivalent to sinkholes occurring in large cities. The deep blue
color is a result of the unknown depths of the hole, not the color of the water
itself.
- Underwater rivers - Created when denser salt water meets
regular salt water.
- Remains of pirate ships - This includes Black Beard's
Queen Anne's Revenge.
- Assorted sunken ships, airplanes, and other vehicles.
- Underwater statues.
The Unusual and Creepy
Unusual and creepy finds are, to some degree, common when
peeking below the water's surface.
- Spiders - Yes, there are spiders that spend the majority
of their life underwater. The diving bell spider is one example of such a
spider. It survives through the production of bell-shaped webs. These webs are
housed in, and attract, air bubbles.
- Partial or entire cities - The city of Thonis, off the
coast of Egypt is one example.
- Human skulls.
- Animal skeletons - One group of divers found a whale skeleton.
- Assorted grenades, military tanks, and other weapons.
When spending time in the water, depending upon what
activity you are taking part in, it is possible to find a wide range of things
underwater. What you find depends on where you go for your underwater activity.
